A unique feature of the EDS International Residential Program is the opportunity for participants to experience the study tours to visit successful multi-national companies or public listed companies located in the industrial zone of Penang, where participants were granted access to gain knowledge through briefing by senior management on the current strategies of the organization, their talent management policies etc and it also includes a plant tour. The participants will have the opportunity to learn the real business / industry situations and techniques for operating in a global business environment.

During the 10th EDS International Residential Program session from 7th to 13th March in Penang, Malaysia, EDS organized a study tour to visit B. Braun Medical Industries located at Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone.

About B. Braun Medical Industries

The Penang operation employs 5,000 people and is one of the largest B. Braun manufacturing site ouside Europe. Established in 1972 on Penang island, the plant has continuously expanded its operations and now has six different production plants for medical devices such as injection needles, shielded IV catheters, surgical blades and instruments, sutures, I.V. solutions and administration sets. Since its commencement, B. Braun Medical Industries Penang has been invested with close to 1 Billion Ringgit in these manufacturing facilities and further investment in production expansion will follow during the coming years.

Recognised as Centre of Excellence for Intravenous Access Products in January 2007 by the parent company in Germany, the plant produces Intravenous Safety Catheters for the global market centralising R&D and technical expertise for B. Braun’s most important product group in Penang. In 2006, BMI was officially awarded the International Procurement Centre (IPC) status by the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA), which would allows procurement and sale of raw materials, components and finished products to companies within the region.
